The cybercriminal group Egregor, engaged in extortion, leaked the internal data of two giants of the gaming industry - Ubisoft and Crytek. Moreover, the attackers promise to publish the source code of the Watch Dogs: Legion game. Part of the compromised information of video game developers was published by Egregor operators on their own site on the dark web. So far, no one can answer the question of how exactly the criminals managed to gain access to classified data.

As a rule, cyber ransomware uses compromised information as an additional influence when communicating with a victim about ransom. This time we see the same thing: the Egregor group published a part of the data on its resource, promising to merge more files in the coming days. Apparently, Crytek and Ubisoft want to persuade them to negotiate. Considering that among the compromised data there is allegedly the source code of the popular game project Watch Dogs, the ransomware may be able to enter into a dialogue with the developers. However, it is currently difficult to determine if the code really belongs to Watch Dogs: Legion, which is scheduled to release this month. It is likely that the attackers are bluffing, and they have the source code of the old versions of the game in their hands.

Over the past year, researchers have repeatedly reported to Ubisoft about phishing attacks targeting the gaming giant's employees. Perhaps this is how the attackers entered the corporate network. In the latest leak, by the way, Ubisoft suffered much less - only 20 MB of leaked files. Crytek, for example, ransomware stole 300 MB, among which was information about the development of game projects Arena of Fate and Warface.
