A malicious extension for Google Chrome has been discovered on the Web that steals user passwords for password recovery. Hackers managed to steal more than 1.4 million coins XRP - internal cryptocurrency Ripple network, said Twitter-account xrplorer forensics.
A permission called Ledger Live was discovered in early March of this year. The program masquerades as a real tool of the same name for users of Ledger wallets. The extension is advertised through advertisements on the Google search engine and uses Google Docs to collect data.
First, criminals ask users to synchronize their wallet with the extension by entering a seed phrase, and then use the data obtained to steal the cryptocurrency.
According to experts, at the moment there are no data on other cryptocurrencies, so the damage can be much greater.
