The defendants fraudulently learned the bank card data of citizens and got access to their online banking. Further, the offenders bought goods, paying with the means of the victims. The preliminary amount of damage caused to the victims is 200,000 hryvnia.
Employees of the department for combating cybercrime in the Kherson region, together with the inquiry sector of the Dnipro police department, under the procedural guidance of the local prosecutor's office, stopped the illegal activities of men, used the stolen data of bank cards of citizens to pay for goods.
The cyber police established that two local residents were involved in such actions. Men in telephone conversations learned the details of citizens' bank cards. They used this data to access the "client-bank". In the future, the attackers bought jewelry and equipment, paying with the cards of the victims. All purchased goods they immediately handed over to pawnshops.
It was previously established that in this way the defendants deceived citizens for more than 200,000 hryvnia.
At the place of residence of the intruders, law enforcement officers conducted searches and seized material evidence. Now law enforcement officers are establishing the circle of victims and the final amount of the damage caused.
On this fact, criminal proceedings were initiated under Art. 185 (Theft) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Investigative actions continue.
Cyberpolice urges citizens: not to give anyone their bank card data (especially CVV code and PIN code), because even bank employees never ask for such information. Also, remember that you should not transfer your card to third parties when making payments in food outlets, shops, and the like.
