Cyber police officers in Chernihiv exposed a couple of roommates for stealing other people's money from ATMs. Attackers attached special pads to ATMs that impeded the issuance of cash (the so-called "cash trapping"). Thus, the defendants deceived citizens by a quarter of a million hryvnia. For this, the criminals face up to 6 years in prison. Reported by the Cyber Police Department of the National Police. Law enforcers found that the roommates came from the capital to Chernigov, where special plates were placed on local ATMs. Then they waited for someone to use the ATM to withdraw cash.

Since the overlays physically prevented the issuance of bills, the citizens believed that the ATM was not working and left without receiving funds. After that, the attackers took out the cover and took the money.

According to preliminary data, the damage caused to citizens reaches a quarter of a million hryvnia.

In the house of the roommates and in their car, law enforcement officers conducted searches. As a result of the procedural actions, parts of the aluminum profile were seized, which were used as linings, as well as a laptop, mobile phones, SIM cards. All material evidence is directed to the appropriate expertise.

On this fact, criminal proceedings were initiated under Part 2 of Art. 361 (Unauthorized interference in the operation of electronic computers (computers), automated systems, computer networks or telecommunication networks) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The defendants face up to 6 years in prison. The issue of announcing suspicion and choosing a preventive measure is being resolved.
