Three unemployed young people from St. Petersburg found a way to “earn extra money” through phishing, but they got caught by the police.

According to the Interfax news agency, since November last year, cyber fraudsters created fake online stores of famous brands on the Internet and lured buyers there. Through phishing forms, attackers collected user bank card data and paid for online purchases with their help. Young people also bought some of the used bank card data on the Web.

Over their entire “labor” activities, cyber fraudsters stole bank card information from more than 2 thousand people. In addition, money totaling more than 4 million rubles was stolen from 754 cards.

According to a source of Interfax, the attackers were detained by officers of the St. Petersburg police. In relation to the defendants, a criminal case under Art. 158 of the Criminal Code ("Theft"). One of the detainees was placed in a temporary detention center, two others were released on recognizance not to leave and due to active conduct of remorse and help to the investigation.

Recall that in April of this year in St. Petersburg a group of carders was detained who stole bank card data using modified PoS-terminals.
