The creation of a cyber police is the agency's response to new types of threats to the security of the population.

A police unit will appear in Russia to investigate crimes on the Internet. This was stated by Deputy Interior Minister Igor Zubov.
“The Minister of Internal Affairs Vladimir Aleksandrovich Kolokoltsev made a decision to create a cyberpolice,” Zubov said. He stressed that the implementation of this project will take a lot of time.

He emphasized that the overall crime rate in the country remained at the same level, however, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of cybercrimes increased.

“During the period of the coronavirus, our overall crime rate has been stable, while crime in the cyber environment has grown sharply. For a number of reasons - this is the impact of digitalization of society, and the fact that people, being in isolation, have more opportunities on the Internet to draw on various knowledge, including criminal ones, and try themselves in this, ”said the Deputy Interior Minister.

“And to a certain extent we can say that for a long time we all, our entire society, young people have been experiencing tremendous informational pressure of a destructive plan,” Zubov said.

At the beginning of this year, it was reported that units for combating IT crimes were created in the investigation department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. This measure has become necessary, as police investigators increasingly have to investigate crimes of this kind, the department noted.
