Graham Ivan Clarke began planning the Twitter hack just two weeks after he got caught stealing 100 bitcoins.

The 17-year-old native of Tampa, Florida, USA, who was arrested last week, Graham Ivan Clark, who, according to the American authorities, organized the Twitter hack , had previously been caught in cybercrimes - he was caught stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars in bitcoins.

According to The New York Times, in 2019, cybercriminals gained remote access to the phone of Seattle investor Gregg Bennett and stole 164 bitcoins. At that time, their combined value was $ 856 thousand, but at the current exchange rate this amount is twice as much - $ 1.8 million. At the same time, Bennett received a ransom note signed by Scrim (another pseudonym used by Clark).

In April of this year, the US Secret Service seized 100 bitcoins from Clark. A few weeks later, Bennett received a notification that the cryptocurrency stolen from him was returned, but the culprit was not arrested, since he is a minor. Coming out of the water, just two weeks after the seizure of bitcoins, Clark began organizing the Twitter hack.

The Florida State Attorney's Office has filed 30 counts against the teenager. On Saturday, August 1, Clarke was released on $ 725,000 bail. It is estimated that he currently has $ 3 million in bitcoin at his disposal. According to the lawyer, they were obtained legally.
