The new guidelines describe how to prevent advanced technology from falling into the hands of foreign governments.

Artificial intelligence, quantum information science and semiconductors are among the leading technologies that the US is seeking to protect under new guidelines. The White House National Security Council has published a list of technologies considered critical to the country's national security and guidelines for protecting them. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal.

Specific instructions will be provided to government agencies on how to prevent technology from falling into the hands of foreign governments such as China. The authorities noted that China is spending heavily to overtake the United States in several critical innovation areas. This includes "using funds to steal technology, forcing companies to disclose intellectual property, refusing to provide mutual access to research and development projects, and promoting authoritarian practices that are contrary to democratic values."

The new initiative is intended to send a signal to U.S. government departments and agencies to rally around the country's existing network of researchers, academics, and the private sector who are turning ideas into innovations that strengthen U.S. national security, the senior official said.

The report also outlines steps that federal agencies must take to promote innovation in the US industrial base, including supporting inventors' ideas and reducing the regulations, policies, and bureaucracy that currently stifle industrial growth.

National Security Council officials plan to update the list annually.
