The US Department of Justice has accused two Chinese citizens of collaborating with Chinese intelligence agencies to hack into the computers of a dozen American companies.

The indictment alleges that Li Xiaoyu and Dong Jiazhi stole more than $ 100 million in trade secrets from companies, research centers and military industrial corporations. Assistant US Attorney General for National Security John Demer noted that hackers have been carrying out their activities for ten years not only in the United States, but also in other countries of the world.

US Assistant Attorney General for National Security John Demer said that the activities of hackers lasted for about 10 years and affected a number of countries around the world. "No country is immune from this," Demer said at a press conference that followed.

The affected companies were involved in new materials, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, defense, robot manufacturing, solar power and other developments, he said. Also, he said, Li Xiaoyu and Dong Jiazhi tried to hack into computers of NGOs, clerics and activists in the United States, mainland China and Hong Kong.

According to Demer, the hackers worked "partly for their own profit, but were ready to come to the aid of the state." He accused China of harboring cybercriminals. “China has now taken its place, along with Russia, Iran and North Korea, in this infamous club of nations that provide a haven for cybercriminals in exchange for these on-call criminals working for the good of the state.
