The Australian Radio Defense Authority has toughened up the fight against cybercriminals exploiting the theme of coronavirus.

As the coronavirus pandemic spreads, so does the number of attacks exploiting this topic. At such a difficult time, the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) decided to tighten the fight against cybercriminals trying to cash in on a common problem.

According to ASD, with respect to cybercriminals exploiting the problem of COVID-19, the regulator will use its offensive capabilities, including cyber attacks.

“Cybercriminals covering themselves with cyberspace and international borders to attack Australians are by no means out of our reach. We are striking back through the Department of Radio Technical Defense, which has already succeeded in successfully suppressing the activities of foreign cybercriminals by disabling their infrastructure and blocking their access to stolen information. Some cybercriminals even pretend to be health officials and are trusted by Australians to infect their computers with malware and steal confidential information, ”said Australian Secretary of Defense Linda Reynolds.

As the minister explained, ASD has already used its offensive capabilities to disable the infrastructure used by foreign cybercriminals.

According to ASD CEO Rachel Noble, cybercriminals will continue to exploit the COVID-19 theme to trick Australian users. “We have just begun offensive cyber operations, and we will continue to retaliate against cybercriminals abroad trying to steal data and money from Australians,” Noble said.
