As a result of the hacker attack, users of the Bitrue cryptocurrency exchange lost $ 4.5 million in XRP and Cardano, the platform reported.
Representatives of the exchange promise to compensate the stolen funds in full:
“The situation is controlled, and the stolen funds will be returned to users in full. We are reviewing security measures and policies to ensure that this situation does not happen again. ”
According to Bitrue, hackers took advantage of a vulnerability in the risk control system and got access to accounts of about 90 users. This allowed him to withdraw 9.3 million XRP and 2.5 million ADA from the hot wallet of the exchange to the addresses of various trading platforms.
Now Bitrue is in maintenance mode. The company explains that it is conducting an urgent verification of the systems and hopes to resume trading in the near future. Withdrawals will not be available at the time of the investigation.
