The court ordered the man to pay a fine of 8500 hryvnias for spreading computer viruses. The judgment, published in the Unified State Register, was made by the Komsomolsk City Court of the Poltava Region.
During the trial, it was established that in August 2019, the defendant found and downloaded malicious software on the Internet. Further, in order to conceal the virus, he archived it using the WinZip program and posted it in the public domain on the Internet.
Thus, the defendant spread the malware to an unlimited number of people by allowing anyone to download these files containing the potentially malicious code AZORult, which is capable of collecting various data on the infected computer and sending it to the command server.
In May 2020, during an authorized search of the attacker's place of residence, a hard drive containing a computer virus was found and seized.
At the hearing, the man fully admitted his guilt. According to the verdict, he is obliged to pay a fine of 8500 hryvnia. He also has to pay to the state the costs of conducting examinations in the amount of 1961.40 hryvnia.
